Wedding Photographer Diary: Wedding Photography at Gorton Monastery Manchester

It’s always an honour to be chosen as a couple’s wedding photographer. To be entrusted with capturing every beautiful detail of their big day is a huge responsibility, one which James Broome Photography both thoroughly enjoys and takes very seriously! We believe this is why we remain one of the most popular wedding photographers Manchester has to offer.

This video shows a few highlights from the photos taken Elena & Stephen’s stunning wedding at Gorton Monastery in Manchester.

Wedding photographers know only too well how much planning and preparation goes into making the big day a big success, but also that when the day arrives, it can go all too quickly for the bride and groom.  In the blink of an eye, they are Mr & Mrs, setting off on honeymoon and the day itself can be something of a blur.  That’s why we make it our mission to capture every tiny detail in beautiful photos that will be treasured forever.  We offer much more than just the typical family and group shots, we want to make sure the happy couple receive a visual representation of the whole day, from start to finish, so that their memories of the happiest day of their lives are still as fresh when they celebrate anniversaries many years down the line.

The Bride looked radiant, The Groom couldn’t have looked happier or more proud, and the whole wedding party were a joy to shoot.  The Monastery is a fabulous venue, which offered some wonderful photo opportunities, and the reception was beautifully styled – everything from centre pieces to the cake was simply perfect. We were delighted to immortalise all those fine details in chic, contemporary photos to compliment a wonderful day.

Thank you to Elena & Stephen for allowing us to share their memories, and for inviting us to be part of your day.  We wish you a lifetime of happiness together and hope you enjoy reminiscing over your wedding photos again and again.

If you’re in need of a wedding photographer we’d be delighted to hear from you & discuss your ideas for your own big day.

Family Portrait Photographer Manchester

Why should you have a family portrait taken?

In today’s age of compact digital cameras, smart phones, and mini camcorders, you’d be forgiven for thinking ‘Why Bother?’ when it comes to professional photography.

However, as much as you might love uploading a quick snapshot from your mobile to your favourite social network, a professional shoot is still definitely worth doing.

Father and son have fun during their family portrait session at our photography studio in Manchester

Here are six important reasons that a professional family portrait session should still be on your to do list.

  1. The whole family can be involved.  When you look through the photos on your computer, are you like most people – hundreds of photos of the kids, perhaps a few of the kids and dad, one or two of the kids and mum – but none of you all together?  That’s because someone’s always behind the camera!  At a professional shoot, you all get to be the centre of attention – nobody gets left out!No family too big or too small - Everyone is welcome!
  2. Great photos can become family heirlooms.  Imagine 20 years from now – when your toddler is all grown up, being able to show them a beautiful album filled with a record of your family when it was just beginning.  However ‘uncool’ a teenager might think a family photo is at the time, chances are when they’ve got a toddler of their own to show it to, they’ll think it’s pretty special!Children playing with their cars as james snaps away creating timeless images your family will love
  3. Digital cameras are undoubtedly great, and simple to use, but they’re really no match for the combined quality of professional equipment and talent of the photographer using it.  James Broome is an expert in his field, with many years of experience.  He will work with you to get the very best out of your shoot and create beautiful, high quality photos that everyone in your family will love.Three images placed into one of a girl having fun at the studio
  4. Time moves quickly.  Your family will never be exactly the same as it is right now.  Fashions evolve, children grow up, hairstyles change… professional portraits are a chance to capture moments of your family’s history to treasure in the future – don’t leave it too long between portraits or who knows what gems you might miss!mum celebrates the birth of her new addition to the family
  5. A professional portrait shoot can be a really fun way to spend time as a family! You can stick to mum, dad, brothers & sisters, or you can bring along aunts, uncles, cousins & grandparents – it’s entirely up to you.  A great photographer like James will make sure you all feel at ease and have fun – which will of course shine through in the fantastic photos you’ll have as a reminder of the day.Fun family portrait at the studio in Manchester
  6. Grandparents, and any relatives living far away, love to receive updated photos of grandchildren/nieces/nephews and so on.  Make the time to have some really great photos taken and you’re bound to make their day.  (A print in a fancy frame makes a great gift for grandparents too – and we all know how tricky they can be to buy for!) Toddler Photographer Manchester

Toddler photography – an extreme sport?!

Any parent who has ever tried to grab a quick snapshot of their toddler looking angelic in between their attention being diverted by something shiny and/or there being an incident which requires anything from a quick face wipe to a whole new set of clothes, will know that taking a great photo of a toddler, is no mean feat.

And, as much as you’ll treasure all those snaps full of ice cream-smothered faces as your little one gets bigger, it’s definitely worth investing in some professional shots too.

As babies move into toddler-hood, they obviously get more mobile, more curious, and above all – more work for mum & dad!  The opportunities to take photos will no doubt be plentiful, but when you’re simultaneously trying to stop them getting into mischief plus any number of other jobs, it’s all too easy to forget to pick up the camera very often.

Before you know it, they’ll be bringing home school photos, and you might be disappointed to find a big gap in your family album.

Don’t panic though, a little forward planning and a few regular sittings each year will help bridge the gap!

At our studio, we encourage parents to get involved and tell us what sort of photos they’d like us to take.  Whether you’re looking for traditional, posed portraits, or more contemporary, ‘un-staged’ shots, we can help.  We’re delighted to include any ‘props’ you’d like to bring – such as favourite toys, fancy dress outfits – anything you’d like that will make your photos more personal and help chart your child’s growth visually.

Capturing a perfect toddler portrait is an art form in itself – and one which James is very practiced in!  Timing is crucial, and James has all the best equipment in terms of high speed digital cameras and the latest flash and lighting technology, but more importantly, he has the expertise to use it to its full potential.  Top quality tools, plus years of experience, combined with James’s talent for directing and engaging with his energetic young subjects, will ensure your toddler portraits are high quality, creative images you’ll be proud to share and cherish for years.

And of course, there’s nothing grandparents like better than gorgeous photos of their favourite little people – so as well as beautiful keepsakes for yourself, professional photos of your toddler can solve all those ‘what to buy?’ conundrums at Christmas and birthdays too!

In short – don’t let the hectic buzz of everyday life let you miss those precious moments of toddler magic – they’ll be worth their weight in gold in years to come!

Newborn Baby Photographer Manchester

Newborn Portraits – Start as soon as you can!

You’ve no doubt heard it a hundred times since you announced you were having a baby – ‘Enjoy every second – it goes far too quickly!’, and unfortunately, it’s all true!

That tiny little bundle you bring home from hospital will amaze you by how quickly they grow and change before your eyes.  Those first few weeks are just a rollercoaster of development – from fully opening their eyes and taking a good look at the world around them, to melting your heart with inquisitive expressions and of course that first smile.

You’ll no doubt be snapping photos of every movement for the first few weeks (in-between feeds, nappy changes & trying to get some sleep yourself!), but you should definitely put a professional newborn portrait shoot on your to do list too.

Generally, the first 7 to 10 days of bringing baby home is the best time to capture the perfect newborn portrait.  By this point, they tend to be more relaxed, having got used to being part of the outside world, and their skin will be clear and soft (Any post-delivery ‘blotchiness’ should have calmed down, wrinkles will have smoothed, and baby acne doesn’t usually happen until around 16 days – of course all babies are beautiful regardless, but there’s no harm in picking the best time for their first close up!).

A great newborn photography session will usually involve a nude bambino, lots of soft blankets, and a loving family.  Your baby is of course the centre of attention, so it’s best to keep things simple, but if you’d like to include a sentimental keepsake or blankie, this can be a lovely way to really personalise the shoot.

For those first important portraits, it really doesn’t matter if your baby is awake or not – so don’t worry about trying to time the shoot perfectly between feeds and naps – either way, you’ll end up with really beautiful photos you’ll cherish forever.

As your baby gets older, consider further sittings every three to four months – the changes over such short periods will be incredible, and as your little one gets older, their personality will really start to shine through, and of course you can think about including other props in the photos for variation, and to make each one really capture whatever stage they are at.

Before long, you’ll find yourself planning a first birthday party, and you’ll be so glad to have an album filled with exquisitely composed photographs of where it all began.

The best advice when it comes to having professional photos taken of a new baby is start as early as you can, and update them as often as you can – it’ll be well worth it when you have a toddler running round and find yourself wondering where your tiny baby went!
